Future Warriors (8th Grade)

Creating an Academic Plan

The Counseling Department provides future Warrior students with an in-class presentation to help create a 4-year Academic Plan for their high school years.

Important deadline: The Academic Plan must be completed by mid-end of February (a date will be sent to all "feeder" middle schools). Families will receive letters by US Postal Service with their student's course requests for the 9th grade. Please note, these are simply course requests and do not reflect your student's final schedule.  In August Counselors will host a Parent/Guardian Presentation and Final schedules will be available for pick up during 9th grade orientation.

Math Advancement:
Due to the high volume of currently enrolled Westmont students, and in order to answer math advancement questions the Counselors have prepared a response to all parents and students that inquire about math advancement at Westmont.

Non-CUHSD programs are not promoted.  If the decision is to enroll your student in a math program for IM2 you will need to make sure the program is WASC accredited and A-G eligible.  The links for these two programs are below to ensure that the math course you choose satisfies both A-G and WASC.

Any student who takes an IM2 course prior to attending Westmont High School will take the IM2 challenge test during the first week or two of 9th grade.  The IM2 challenge test is available to all students regardless of completing an IM2 course.

Students who pass the 2-part IM2 challenge test with specific requirements will be able to choose whether they would like to advance into IM3 or IM3 STEM, and the IM2 challenge test grade will be placed on the student's Westmont transcript.  More information will be sent to students and parents who are enrolled at Westmont at the beginning of the student's 9th grade school year once school starts.

Future 9th Grade Warriors:
The Westmont Counseling Department has concluded its 2024-2025 programming with all "feeder" middle schools. If your student missed the presentation and programming day at their middle school, please reach out directly to the middle school to request your student's login information to their CUHSD Gmail account and CUHSD Aeries portal account.

Review the slides below to see the recommended sequences for each subject area. The links in the slides are also live and are accessible to incoming students who are interested in programs such as Associated Student Body (ASB/Leadership), and Journalism. Also included are links to the English 1 Honors optional summer packet that includes recommended readings.
