The CUHSD Sports/Marching Band PE program allows students to earn physical education credits through participation in CIF/CCS approved, school sponsored sports teams, and/or participation in the school marching band if they have met qualification requirements for the program.

Students can earn 2.5 credits per season of participation for up to 5 credits per school year (ex. Fall and Winter seasons).  This does not preclude participation in a third season, however Sports/Marching Band PE or elective credit will not be earned for that season.  Credits may be earned beginning in 9th grade, pending the student passing the 4 out of the 5 areas on the physical fitness test in the Spring of their 9th grade year.  In CUHSD, we use the FitnessGram as a guide to the physical fitness test. The program does allow for students to begin participation in the Sports PE program beginning their 10th grade year, without prior participation, unless they are single sport athletes.  Single sport athletes and Marching Band PE candidates will need to participate in grades 9-12 to fulfill physical education graduation requirements. Students may choose to participate in both Sports PE and Marching Band PE to fulfill PE credit requirements.

Students may apply for the Sports/Marching Band PE program during the specified window for each season they wish to earn credit, however enrollment in the program will not be complete until students have met all requirements.  Eligibility for the program will be based on the following criteria:

  1. Participation in a CIF/CCS approved school sport or Marching Band

  2. 2.0 Non-Weighted Academic GPA throughout each season

  3. Passing the Physical Fitness Test during 9th grade

  4. Passing Physical Education 9: Course 1 with a D or better both semesters in the 9th grade year.
