Weekly Principal Update

Westmont Community,

As we complete our 2nd week of the school year I have a few reminders and updates to share with you.
Our optional weekly Covid testing for students will continue this Wednesday after school. I’ve included the Westmont Testing QR Code Westmont Testing QR Code for your convenience.  Please note that parents/guardians MUST consent for their minor student to test. Students who are 18+ can consent and register for themselves. If you have specific questions regarding the testing, please reach out to our Health Secretary, Tessa Corona del Conde at tcorona@cuhsd.org.  I also can’t express how important it is for our students to stay home if they are showing any Covid symptoms.

The district is continuing to offer free brunch and lunch meals to all students.  This offering has caused the lines to be longer than in past years, however, we are hoping that the lines will begin to move faster with the additional workers that have been hired last week. Students that are interested in job opportunities can still apply online at studentworker.cuhsd.org. We are also looking to hire and train adult candidates (non-students) to work 3.5 hour shifts during the school day. Please visit our district website at food.CUHSD.org to access the online application. Also, on the food front, we do not allow Door Dash or other food deliveries to the school due to health and safety concerns.

I want to caution our parent and student drivers that when you are dropping off or picking up students on Westmont Avenue to please drive slow and be vigilant.  We have seen some unsafe driving and I want to make sure our community is not at risk.

I wanted to update you on our Back to School Night that will be taking place on Wednesday, September 1st.  We have decided to error on the side of caution and hold the evening virtually.  More info will be shared in the coming days.  This will still be a great evening and I urge you to attend and learn more about your students' classes and teachers.  Also, we will have information on how you as a parent/guardian can get involved with Westmont.

For those students that have not taken their pictures, we will have a student picture makeup day on September 3rd.

And lastly, I strongly encourage you to follow the progress of your student on a weekly basis through our Canvas platform.  If you are not signed up or have questions about Canvas please click this link. Canvas CUHSD  This week we began having our Homework Center open after school in the library from 2:50 -3:50.  This week it will be open on Tuesday with the hope of adding additional days starting the following week.  If you have questions regarding a class your student is in I encourage you to reach out to that teacher.

Have a great week and Go Warriors!

-Mr. Miller
