About Me

My name is Tonette Slaviero and I teach Work Experience Education (WEE) at all of our high schools in the Campbell Union High School District. I am a San Jose native who attended Piedmont Hills High School and then obtained a BA degree in French with a minor in Italian from San Jose State University. I then obtained my Career Technical Education credential from UC Berkeley Extension and eventually an MBA from University of Phoenix. I spent two years of my childhood (age 10-12) in Sicily where I lived with my grandparents and attended elementary school there.

Prior to teaching, I worked in retail sales and management and that is where my career as a teacher began to take shape. I hired high school students who were enrolled in a Marketing class. The teacher would perform visits to the job sites and upon talking to her, I found the job fascinating. So when she retired I applied for and got her position.

I have now worked as a high school teacher for the past 35 years: 20 of them teaching Marketing and Business Ownership, and the last 15 teaching Work Experience Education. I earned my MBA in 2003 and have completed and received an Adult Education credential to teach Career Education, Computerized Accounting, Hospitality and Tourism, Marketing, and French/Italian. As part of my teaching role, I help secure work-based learning opportunities for our students by connecting with local businesses. I speak fluent Italian, Sicilian, French, and some Spanish. I am the Heritage and Culture Chairperson of our Sicilian Sisterhood Women's Club and I also served on the Executive Board of CAWEE (California Association of Work Experience Educators) for 10 years. I am also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma; my local chapter is Zeta Psi.

Other career interests: One of my other career interests would be to serve as a corporate consultant in the areas of employee morale, customer service, and business ethics. I would also like to bridge the gap between the staffing needs of organizations and the qualified applicant pool available to meet those needs. I would love to serve as a job coach for young people with little work experience and/or displaced workers rejoining the work force.

Specialties: I am organized and articulate. I enjoy training and job coaching and I have excellent communication skills. I am also good at planning and coordinating events. I love to write and have produced several company newsletters for both the personal and professional organizations to which I belong. I also wrote poetry when I was in high school.

Hobbies: In my spare time I enjoy traveling with my husband Paul and hanging out at home with our two turtles, Barney and Betty🐢🐢. I also spend my spare time playing Words With Friends. Paul and I love watching tennis (actually most sports) and getting together with friends. Our love for the Lord brought us together 18 years ago and it  continues to sustain us to this day.
