INTRODUCTION TO INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
Grade Level: 9
Graduation Credit: Applied Arts
This one-semester class teaches students
to be computer proficient and meet or exceed minimum school technology
requirements. Students use MicroType Multimedia, the Microsoft Office
suite, and Netscape or Internet Explorer. Students develop basic
keyboarding skills in word processing, spreadsheets and charting,
database, PowerPoint, e-mail, Internet usage and web page design. These
skills enable students to research, format, display and present
information, especially in English and social science courses.
COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
Grade Level: 10 through 12
Graduation Credit: Applied Arts
This hands-on, one year course stresses advanced computer/technology
operations and applications. The most current software programs are
utilized to teach the following applications: word processing, database
management, graphing, spreadsheets, graphics, publishing, and
presentation software. Projects and portfolios are used to demonstrate
competencies. Digital imaging software is introduced. Knowledge of the
keyboard is helpful.
ACCOUNTING

In this full-year course double-entry accounting is taught and skills are
developed that assist students in obtaining employment. Theory and
practical application are stressed to prepare students for the required
college courses of a business major. The entire accounting cycle is
covered and includes journals, posting to ledgers, preparing worksheets,
and financial reports. Once students have learned accounting procedures
through manual exercises, they record routine accounting transactions on
the computer, learning the techniques of inputting data, as well as
preparing statements and interpreting financial results.

COMPUTER BASICS

This one year course offers students the opportunity to improve their keyboarding skills through specially designed, self-paced, engaging activities. Students learn to create spreadsheets and charts in Excel for science classes and to design effective visual aids in Word and PowerPoint for class presentations and projects. In addition, freshmen are introduced to proper formatting techniques for letters and reports used in both high school and college research papers. Students also study safe Internet research techniques and copyright issues.
BANKING
Grade Level: 11-12
Graduation Credit: Applied Arts
Students work in the school bank accepting and counting deposits, writing checks, and maintaining student body account records. They perform general bank teller and account clerk duties and prepare accounting reports using the computer for data entry and reporting.
