AGRICULTURE I ñ Introduction to Agricultural Science
Grade Level: 9 through 12
Prerequisite: None
This one-year course introduces students to California agriculture
through hands-on activities. Areas of instruction included an introduction
to animal science, plant science agricultural careers, agricultural leadership
activities, record keeping, and current issues in agriculture. This
class is for students of all areas and is not limited to production agriculture.
Students in this class are eligible to raise livestock on the farm.
This course provides elective credit for graduation requirement.
AGRICULTURE II ñ Fundamentals of Agricultural Science
Grade Level: 10 through 12
Prerequisite: Agriculture I & Algebra I or teacher permission
This second level class provides a hands-on approach to biological
sciences through agriculture. Concepts in animal, and plant science,
foreign and domestic agriculture history, public speaking, and parliamentary
procedure as well as biological principles of the following areas: molecular
and cellular aspects of living things, structure an function of agricultural
plants and animals, genetics, physiology, plant and animal diversity and
principles of classification, ecological relationships, and animal behavior.
This second level course completes the requirement for life science,
as well as satisfies the UC entrance requirement for laboratory sciences.
AGRICULTURE III/IV ñ Advanced Plant and Animal Science (ROP)

Grade Level: 11 through 12
Prerequisite: Agriculture 1 and /or 2, teacher permission
Students study plant genetics, marketing, irrigation, fertilization,
soil evaluation, and major crops of California. Greenhouse production
is also included. Advanced agriculture students will study animal
nutrition, genetics, and animal medicine as well as marketing and management.
Career exploration is a large part of this course. This class provides
elective credit for graduation.
AGRICULTURE MECHANICS
Grade Level: 09 through 12 (Prerequisite: None)
May be taken Concurrently with the Above Agriculture Classes Tools
and skills related to the agriculture industry such as oxyacetylene torch,
arc welding, painting, carpentry, rope work, basic use of the surveyorís
level and general maintenance of the farm.
